Tell us about your training background?
While I attended College in Phoenix I trained Mixed Martial Arts under Jeff Funicello (a Greco Roman Wrestling International champion) in 2002, where I had the opportunity to train with many of the world’s top fighters including Dan Henderson and Randy Couture. In 2005 I started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Relson Gracie, the son of Grandmaster Helio Gracie (creator of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu) and received my Blue belt in a matter of months. In the summer of 2007 I moved back to Page and alongside my Brother Billy, opened Redhouse BJJ, an affiliate of Felipe Costa .I’m now under the instruction of Felipe Costa. Recently, Felipe gave me my Purple belt during his latest visit to Page. I hope to one day to acquire a Black belt like my instructor.
Who are you and where are you from?
Page, Arizona.
What was your main influence for starting jiu-jitsu?
My Father, he was the one who trained my brother and me to fight when we were very young. Not Jiu-jitsu but Boxing, ever since then I was very interested in fighting and when UFC started I was hooked. I saw Royce Gracie was beating much larger opponents and I thought “I need to learn this terrific sport.”
How often do you train?
3-5 times a week
Who are your Heroes?
Anyone with the dedication to train any Martial Art.
What are your interests outside of Jiu-Jitsu?
Mostly just Hang out with My Beautiful Wife and my children.
What is your favorite submission/positions in Jiu-Jitsu and why?
Helio Said it best “I prefer chokes over joint locks because a tough opponent might keep fighting with a broken arm, whereas everyone who gets choked will go to sleep.” Helio Gracie
Anyone you like to thank, shout outs?
My Wife Sheena, My Father and Mother, Felipe Costa, My Brothers, and my Students. Thank You all for Everything
What would you do if you were not a fighter?
This has always been a doubt, so far I don’t know what I would have done if I had not decided to live on the sport. Maybe I would try to be a dog trainer
